Rendez-vous naval de Québec is an event that brings the past and present world of navigation to life. A number of free exhibitions will help you discover the history of navigation throughout the four days of the festival.
Québec City’s strategic location has always been ideally suited to trade and exchanges. From the time of the First Nations, the St. Lawrence River has been key to the city’s history.
The St. Lawrence means the very biggest civilian and military vessels can visit the city. If there is one city in the world that looks great as a backdrop to the Calypso or Queen Mary 2, then it’s Québec with its fantastic views of the ships.
In the 19th century, the Port of Québec was considered to be the third biggest in North America. In 1908, a fleet of military ships from abroad played an active role in the city’s 300th anniversary celebrations.
Since then, Québec City’s history has been marked by other visits to its port—a stopover by the British Navy in 1923, for instance, or when the NATO fleet paid the port a visit.
