For four days, over 1,500 sailors from the French, British, Canadian, Irish and American navies will rendezvous in Québec City. Come welcome them in a fun and festive atmosphere!
The Navy provides an opportunity to discover the world and other cultures, to represent your country abroad. It is no ordinary job. Crew members, no matter how young they are, bear responsibility and occupy very important functions.
Sailors on board frigates, for instance, are to all intents and purposes guard dogs to the strategically important ships they are protecting. Frigates are armed with missiles, torpedoes, shells, and small arms. Their considerable arsenals mean that crews are living on board floating timebombs, where the No. 1 enemy is fire.
Many are put off by the unknown, the fear of leaving families and children behind, and concern that they won’t be able to find their sea legs. But the desire to enjoy out-of-the- ordinary experiences is often enough to send them off to war. Today the Internet helps sailors feel less isolated from the rest of the world.
Missions help them discover themselves, and interaction with crews from other countries is vital. Sailors must work closely together and learn to speak the same language.
